WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Murry Dickson robbed Hoot Evers of a base hit.

The Philadelphia Phillies put a halt to their 5 game losing streak and had
very little trouble at Shibe Park downing the Pittsburgh Pirates. The score
was 8 to 3.

Pittsburgh was unable to climb back into it after Philadelphia went ahead for
good in the 4th inning scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. The big moment was
provided by Dick Wakefield who brought a roar from the partisan Shibe Park
fans when he cracked a two-run shot. Philadelphia had 12 hits overall, while
Pittsburgh had 7.

Murry Dickson(3-5) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 7 innings. Allie
Reynolds(2-8) ended up with the loss. He had trouble throwing strikes and
issued 9 walks in 6 innings.

When questioned, Mark McGonigle remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt
this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!'
