Warren Spahn racked up an impressive total of 11 strikeouts as the Washington
Nationals outscored the New York-AL Yankees in 13 innings 2 to 1.

The score was tied at 1 after nine.  Washington won it in the 13th inning.
Bobby Adams ripped a base-hit.  Jim Hegan came to the plate and laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Bob Kuzava then uncorked a wild pitch.  Carl Erskine stepped
in and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.  Washington and New York-AL
each finished the afternoon with 8 hits.  

Erskine(2-0) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Kuzava(1-2) was
charged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 inning and surrendered 2 hits
and no walks.
