Johnny Sain went the distance as the Chicago-NL Cubs bested the New York-AL
Yankees 6 to 5 at Yankee Stadium.
Sain(2-4) gave Chicago-NL a solid outing. He surrendered 12 hits and no walks
in 9 innings. New York-AL had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came
up short.
Carl Erskine(4-6) absorbed the loss. 'I always am most impressed when a
pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Ron Mead said after
the game. 'Sain did not have command of his pitches most of the afternoon,
but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
