Catcher Yogi Berra smacked 2 homeruns as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St.
Louis Cardinals by a score of 4 to 2.

Pittsburgh had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 2nd inning when they
had 3 base hits. Berra began things off when he single-handedly provided the
offense with a solo home run. Hank Sauer came to the plate and drew a walk.
Mickey Vernon then singled. Pete Reiser followed next and he doubled driving
in one more runner. Eddie Lopat stepped into the box and would ground out
scoring the final run of the inning. The early run support proved sufficient
for Lopat(5-5) and Pittsburgh. That was all the run support Lopat required.
Pittsburgh won despite being out-hit by St. Louis 11 hits to 6.

Eddie Erautt earned his 2nd save. Russ Meyer(6-6) was the losing pitcher. He
pitched 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 walks.
