Hank Sauer ripped 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 11 to 8 at Forbes Field. Sauer was spectacular at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 2nd inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th inning and doubled with all three runners coming home in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had 16 hits for the game and Cincinnati had 12. The victory went to Ellis Kinder(1-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Bubba Church got the save, his 10th. Dutch Leonard(0-2) was the loser in relief. 'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Sauer said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
