Dick McBride completed the game without help from the bullpen and Cap Anson
had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Jefferson St Grounds as the Philadelphia A Athletics,
running on all cylinders, ripped the New Haven Elm Citys by a large 16 to 4
margin.

Philadelphia A started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first as they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits.  Philadelphia A provided
plenty of action in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning
which saw them score 4 runs on 5 hits.  The Philadelphia A offense
man-handled the New Haven pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9
innings.  

McBride(15-6), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Henry
Luff(2-5) took the loss.  Philadelphia A scored big getting 16 runs off him
in 8 innings.
