Ed Beatin allowed Tom Loftus to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Cleveland Spiders outscored the Chicago White Stockings 12 to
10.

Cleveland scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning when they came up with 3 base hits.
They would hold up as the winning runs.  Despite scoring in 5 separate
innings, Chicago could not get the win.  

The winning pitcher was Beatin(3-5) who allowed 10 runs for the game. Ad
Gumbert(3-4) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around, surrendering 12
runs in 9 innings.  

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Beatin said,
'this was one of those times.'
