Catcher Roy Campanella slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Washington
Nationals beat the New York-AL Yankees in 13 innings by a score of 8 to
3.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings.  Finally, Washington
pulled the game out in the 13th inning.  The biggest moment was provided by
Campanella who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he lofted a
three-run 'big-fly'.  Washington had 14 hits for the afternoon while New
York-AL had 10.  

The win was credited to Harry Byrd(1-5) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.
Paul Minner(1-1) was the loser in relief.  He pitched 1 inning allowing 3
hits and 1 walk.
