Second baseman Ross Barnes had 6 hits and 4 RBI and Al Spalding completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Chicago White Stockings topped the
Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 13 to 5 at Jefferson St Grounds.

Barnes had a great day at the plate.  He doubled in the 1st inning, delivered
a single in the 3rd inning, ripped a one-base hit in the 5th inning, tripled
with all three runners coming home in the 6th inning, slapped a base-hit in
the 7th inning and lined a one-base hit which plated a run in the 9th inning.
Chicago bats were very productive in the 6th inning when they had 8 runs on
7 hits.  Chicago kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored
in 6 different innings.  

The victory went to Spalding(13-5) who went the distance allowing 5 runs.
George Zettlein(2-5) was tagged with the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up
17 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.  

This win by Chicago continues their recent hot streak.  In their last ten
games, they have a record of 8-2.  For the season, they are 14-5.
Philadelphia has a record of 6-12 after the loss.
