Jim Whitney tossed a complete game and left fielder Guerdon Whiteley had 2
base hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the Providence Grays by
a score of 9 to 6 at South End Grounds.

Whitney(4-6) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 8
hits and no walks in 9 innings.  Boston totaled 14 hits on the afternoon.

Dupee Shaw(6-5) was the losing pitcher.  He was not very effective,
surrendering 9 runs in 8 innings.  Boston now has a record of 8-15.
Providence has a record of 9-14 after the loss.
