Tommy Corcoran collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI and Doc Newton closed
the door on New York at Polo Grounds as the Cincinnati Reds came back
dramatically to top the New York Giants by the score of 11 to 10.
Cincinnati scored the winning runs in the 9th inning when they scored 6 runs
on 5 hits. The highlight belonged to Harry Steinfeldt who silenced the
stadium when he delivered a single plating two runs. Cincinnati took care of
New York with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Ted Breitenstein(3-3) went 8 innings allowing 10 runs for the win.
Breitenstein got help from Newton who earned his 1st save. Ed Doheny(1-8)
ended up with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 16
hits and 7 walks in 9 innings.
Bob Allen was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office after
the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just sat
there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
