Bob Lemon had 3 base hits as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics defeated the
Chicago-NL Cubs 4 to 2 at Connie Mack Stadium.
Philadelphia-AL claimed the early lead in the first inning when they came up
with 3 runs on 3 hits. That was all Lemon(4-6) needed. Chicago-NL had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Billy Hoeft was credited with his 1st save. The loss was charged to Joe
Dobson(2-2). Ron Mead was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really
hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have
won that one. That is what really ticks me off!'
