The New York-AL Yankees edged the Brooklyn Dodgers at Yankee Stadium by the
score of 4 to 3.

New York-AL took the lead for good in the 3rd inning scoring one runner.
Brooklyn threatened in the 9th but New York-AL was able to put down the
rally.  

Vern Law(4-3) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Law
was helped out by George Zuverink who recorded his 5th save.  Curt
Simmons(0-1) took the loss.  His ERA ballooned from 3.93 to 4.26 as he
allowed 4 runs in 7 innings.  

'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Roy Purcell said.
'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'
