Center fielder Larry Doby cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Cincinnati
Reds defeated the Washington Nationals 9 to 2 at Crosley Field.
It was a good day for Cincinnati thanks to Doby. He lifted one out of the
park for a two run home run in the 1st inning and lofted a three-run bomb in
the 3rd inning. Cincinnati out-hit Washington for the game, 14 hits to 6.
Bob Porterfield(5-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Porterfield got relief help from Ray Crone who gained credit
for his 1st save. Murry Dickson(5-4) was given the loss. He surrended 4
homeruns in his 2 and 2/3 innings.
