WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Elmer Flick robbed Cupid Childs of a Homerun!

Jack Powell had 2 base hits and he pitched 9 strong innings at Baker Bowl as
the St. Louis Perfectos beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 2.

St. Louis scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Powell started the rally
when he laced a base-hit. Jesse Burkett next to the plate and he lined a
single. Emmet Heidrick then drew a walk to load the bases. Jake Stenzel
followed next and he drew a walk knocking in a run. Cupid Childs came to the
plate and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Powell(10-5) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Wiley
Piatt(9-4) absorbed the loss. Powell was obviously very pleased with his
performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games
where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched
another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time
out!'
