Lefty Leifield completed the game without help from the bullpen and center
fielder Armando Marsans had 3 base hits at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics won a thriller over the Washington Nationals in, 4 to
3.

Philadelphia-AL scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  Al Bridwell
stroked a single.  Tris Speaker was next and he banged out a single.  Danny
Murphy then ripped a base-hit to load the bases.  George Chalmers then let
one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch making Philadelphia-AL the winners
and sending the 7,764 fans home happy.  Philadelphia-AL banged out 12 hits on
the afternoon.  

The win went to Leifield(8-5) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Hooks
Wiltse(3-4) absorbed the loss.  He gave up 4 runs and 10 hits in 8 innings.
