WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Sam Crawford robbed Doc Cook of an extra base hit.

Sam Crawford had 3 base hits and 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the New
York Yankees 14 to 6 at Polo Grounds.

In the 3rd inning Detroit went on top for good as they scored 4 runs on 3 base
hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Crawford who deflated the mood of
the partisan fans when he hit a single bringing in two baserunners. Detroit
simply wore out the New York pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Harry Coveleski(9-2) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Ray
Keating(2-5) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 13 hits and 6
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
