Catcher Jim Hegan had 2 base hits as the Washington Nationals won a dandy at
Griffith Stadium over the Cincinnati Reds, 4 to 3.

The game was won by Washington when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning.  Johnny Mize doubled.  Bud Stewart followed and he was walked
intentionally.  Dom Dimaggio then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Joe Dimaggio
was up next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Willard
Marshall came to the plate and slapped a base-hit resulting in a mighty
exciting win for Washington and the 31,615 home town fans in attendance.
Washington finished with just 6 hits in the victory.  

The victory went to Herm Wehmeier(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Satchel Paige(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and
2 hits in 1/3 of an inning.  

Wth the win Washington now has a record of 31-25.  Rob Hickok was pretty down
after the loss.  'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like
2-8 in the last week or two.  That won't get it done.'
