The New York-AL Yankees and the floundering Boston-AL Red Sox locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Fenway Park. The final score was the New York-AL
Yankees 4, the floundering Boston-AL Red Sox 3.

New York-AL had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 4th inning. Hank
Sauer led off and started the attack as he banged out a single. Ralph Kiner
stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Sid Gordon then drew a walk to
load the bases. Billy Goodman stepped in and he hit a deep fly resulting in
a run. Vern Stephens stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases.
Matt Batts contributed to the rally and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the
final run of the inning. Boston-AL threatened in the 9th but New York-AL was
able to put down the rally.

Gerry Staley(3-6) allowed 2 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Staley got relief help from Bob Kuzava who gained credit for his 8th
save. Alex Kellner(2-10) was tagged with the loss.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Allan Kaufman said. 'It's
bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating
yourselves, that's really bad.'
