Johnny Bates ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Huntington Ave Grnds as the
Boston-AL Americans beat the Washington Nationals by the count of 8 to
3.

Bates helped send the fans home happy.  He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 4th inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 8th inning.
Washington out-hit Boston-AL 11 to 8, but Boston-AL ended up with more runs.

The win was credited to Wild Bill Donovan(2-8) who went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 2 runs. Donovan got help from Rube Waddell who earned his 2nd save.
Bob Ewing(6-6) was the loser.  He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 8 hits
and 2 walks.
