Al Spalding went the distance and Deacon White had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the
Boston Red Stockings clobbered the outmatched New York Mutuals, 24 to 5.
The New York fans didn't appreciate the big day White had. He lined a single
resulting in a run in the 1st inning, doubled bringing home two baserunners
in the 2nd inning, hit a one-base hit scoring a run in the 6th inning and
doubled in the 9th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd inning
which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits and the 5th inning which saw them score
6 runs on 6 hits. Boston kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they
