Al Spalding was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and George Wright had 3 base hits and 4 RBI as the Boston club
clobbered the outmatched Keokuk Westerns, 18 to 7.
The Keokuk fans didn't appreciate the big day Wright had. He singled in the
5th inning, doubled scoring a run in the 7th inning and laced a base-hit
bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard
in the 2nd inning when they had 5 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning which saw
them score 6 runs on 6 hits. The Boston offense was great, scoring in 8 of
the 9 innings.
The victory was credited to Spalding(24-4) who went the distance, allowing 7
runs. Mike Golden(5-7) was given the loss. By giving up 18 runs in 9 innings
his ERA increased from 1.85 to 2.59.
