WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Bill Carrigan blocked the plate, saving a run!

Ray Collins went the distance and Duffy Lewis had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the
Boston Red Sox came back to win one over Cleveland Naps, 8 to 7.

Boston had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on
2 hits. After an out was recorded, Tris Speaker was the sparkplug when he
drew a walk. A balk was called. Lewis then ripped a base-knock which scored
a run. Lewis took second on the throw. After another out, Clyde Engle
stepped in and he was walked intentionally. Heinie Wagner stepped into the
box and laced a base-hit giving Boston the win as 7,284 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.

The victory went to Collins(6-2) who went the distance allowing 7 runs. The
losing pitcher was Vean Gregg(7-4). He was knocked around by Boston,
allowing 14 hits and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like
this, of course,' Bill Carrigan offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a
great time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
