At Shibe Park, the Philadelphia fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Al
Benton(3-3) finally bested his Washington opposite, Don Newcombe(5-8), by the
score of 4 to 0.

Benton pitched a solid game.  He went 6 innings surrendering 5 hits and no
walks improving his ERA from 3.30 to 3.00.  Philadelphia had 9 hits for the
night while Washington had 5.  

Benton was helped out by Virgil Trucks who recorded his 2nd save.  Newcombe
ended up with the loss.  With this win, Philadelphia has a 33-33 record.
They have been 4-6 lately.  With the loss, the Washington ballclub's record
is 38-32.
