In a tight game it was the Washington Nationals 7, the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 at
Griffith Stadium.

Washington had 6 runs cross the plate in the 5th inning when they came up with
5 base hits. The big moment was provided by Irv Noren who brought a roar
from the partisan Griffith Stadium fans when he clubbed a three-run home run.
Pittsburgh had 13 hits in the game while Washington had 7, but Washington
had the more timely hits.

Bob Feller(8-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 5
runs. Jim Konstanty recorded the save, his 12th. Eddie Lopat(3-6) was the
losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 5 innings.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Feller said.
