Doby was unconscious all evening. The Philadelphia-AL fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He banged out a single in the 3rd inning, delivered a base-hit scoring a run in the 3rd inning, belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning and stroked a one-base hit bringing in a run in the 9th inning. Cincinnati bats were hot in the 3rd inning when they had 7 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning with 7 runs on 5 hits. The Cincinnati offense man-handled the Philadelphia-AL pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. Preacher Roe(3-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 6 runs. Roe got relief help from Paul Minner who gained credit for his 2nd save. Carl Scheib(2-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 4 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
