Sumner Bowman completed the game without help from the bullpen and second
baseman Al Myers had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over New York Giants, 11 to
10.

Philadelphia had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Jack Clements led off the inning for Philadelphia when he slapped
a base-hit. Bill Gray next to the plate and he tripled plating a run. Al
McCauley then hit a sacrifice fly bringing home one more runner. Bob Allen
stepped in and he drew a walk. Pop Schriver came up to bat and drew a walk.
Billy Hamilton did his part to keep things going and singled giving
Philadelphia the victory and sending the 2,941 home-town fans home happy.
The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.

The victory was credited to Bowman(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 10
runs. The losing pitcher was Jesse Burkett(0-4). He was hit hard and gave up
12 hits and 9 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Myers noted. 'It was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really
paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the
end!'
