Andy Coakley allowed Gordon Renaud to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by
the score of 7 to 6 at Columbia Park.

Washington jumped on top of Philadelphia-AL in the top of the 7th inning
plating an isolated run on 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Larry Doyle
tripled.  Roger Bresnahan came to the plate and reached on an error scoring
the run.  Philadelphia-AL tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Coakley(7-2) lasted until the end allowing 6 runs for the win. Ed Summers(5-7)
took the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 12 hits and 1 walk.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Coakley said.
