Mordecai Brown came through with a solid 9 innings and Bill Carrigan had 2
base hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia-NL Phillies staged a dramatic
comeback over the Washington Nationals by a score of 3 to 2 at Baker
Bowl.

Philadelphia-NL came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the
9th inning plating 2 runs on 2 base hits.  Nap Lajoie led off and started the
rally when he drew a walk.  Hal Chase next to the plate and he slapped a
single.  Chase got a good lead and stole second.  Two outs later Carrigan
stepped up to the plate and he hit a single resulting in an exciting win for
Philadelphia-NL and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Philadelphia-NL had 9 hits for the afternoon.  

Brown(11-8) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Jack Coombs(4-2)
was given the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of an
inning.  

'Brown pitched a gem of a game', Gordon Renaud recounted.  'He kept our
batters off balance the entire game.'
