Henry Gruber was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Hardy Richardson cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at South End
Grounds where the Detroit Wolverines beat the Boston Beaneaters by the score
of 5 to 4.

Detroit scored all of the necessary runs in the 4th inning scoring 5 runners
on 4 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Richardson who silenced the
stadium when he rifled a three-run blast.  The Boston offense proved no
trouble in the bottom of the 9th.  

The victory was credited to Gruber(2-2) who went the distance, allowing 4
runs. Old Hoss Radbourn(1-3) was the losing pitcher.
