Joe Garagiola blasted a homerun and had 5 RBI at Griffith Stadium as the
Washington Nationals beat the Chicago-NL Cubs by the count of 11 to
5.

Garagiola enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He banged out a single plating a
run in the 6th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 7th inning.
Washington had 17 hits for the game and Chicago-NL had 8.  

The win was credited to Ralph Branca(3-6) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing
5 runs. Bill Werle recorded his 1st save.  Willie Ramsdell(4-5) was the
losing pitcher.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 5 and
2/3 innings.  

Wth the win Washington now has a record of 24-32.  With this loss, Chicago-NL
has a 3-7 record of late, 26-42, worst in the league overall.
