Mickey Mantle jacked one out of the ballyard at Ebbets Field as the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 4 to 3.
Dean Stone(7-2) did the job in relief, and he got credit for the win. He went
1 inning and surrended up 1 hit and 1 walk. Brooklyn threatened in the 9th
but their rally came up short.
Stone got help from Tom Poholsky who was credited with his 9th save. The loss
was charged to Bob Buhl(0-2) in relief. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 3 runs in 2 innings.
Roy Purcell was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we
just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more
white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
