WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Al Kaline robbed Solly Hemus of a Homerun!

Mickey Mantle blasted 2 homeruns and scored 3 times as the Kansas City
Athletics beat the Cleveland Indians by a score of 9 to 6.

Mantle was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He delivered a solo blast in the 6th
inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 8th inning. Cleveland
tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Frank Lary(5-8) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Mickey
McDermott recorded his 1st save. The loss was charged to Johnny
Klippstein(5-5). Kansas City scored big getting 5 runs off him in 4 innings.

The Kansas City ballclub's record now stands at 28-40. Cleveland has a record
of 34-38 after the loss.
