The Boston-AL Red Sox ended a long winless drought and easily topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates; the final score was 7 to 1.

Boston-AL wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
scored 3 runs on 3 hits. That early scoring was all that Fred
Hutchinson(5-4) needed. Boston-AL had 11 hits for the afternoon while
Pittsburgh had 8.

Early Wynn(6-5) took the loss. 'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man
alive, things were getting awfully grim,' noted Allan Kaufman. 'Now, we need
to string a bunch of wins together and turn things around!'
