One run was the difference at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals
defeated the New York-AL Yankees in 12 innings 4 to 3.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings.  Washington was
victorious in the 12th inning.  Frank Baumholtz doubled.  Bobby Adams stepped
up next and he smacked a single.  One out later, Rip Repulski then hit a deep
fly making Washington victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Washington and New York-AL each finished the afternoon with 10 hits.  

Joe Nuxhall(4-9) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory.
Satchel Paige(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings
allowing 3 hits and no walks.
