Eddie Booth had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Bobby Mathews tossed a complete game
as the New York Mutuals outscored the Keokuk Westerns 6 to 5.
New York scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing
3 base hits. Nat Hicks led off and started the rally when he banged out a
single. Booth came to the plate and tripled scoring a run. Candy Nelson
then reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Keokuk tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Mathews(7-17) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. The loss was
charged to Mike Golden(5-8). 'It's a disheartening loss, no question about
it' said Joe Simmons 'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next
game.'
