Charlie Irwin hit 2 doubles and Jim Hughes was able to finish what he started
and was credited with a complete game at Washington Park as the Brooklyn
Superbas beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 1.

Brooklyn set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner
utilizing 2 base hits.  Brooklyn rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.  

The winning pitcher was Hughes(6-3) who allowed 1 run for the game. Ed
Murphy(2-7) was charged with the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 9 hits
and no walks.
