In a lop-sided win the New York Yankees ripped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 8
to 1 count.

Pittsburgh never recovered after New York took the lead in the 3rd inning when
they came up with 3 runs on 2 hits.  That early scoring held up.  For the
game New York out-hit Pittsburgh 12 to 3.  

Johnny Vander Meer(4-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and
allowing 1 run. Vern Bickford got the save, his 6th.  Eddie Lopat(0-8)
absorbed the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 2 walks in 6
innings.
