Don Newcombe racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the Washington
Nationals defeated the Boston-AL Red Sox 5 to 3 at Griffith
Stadium.

Newcombe(4-5) had a solid outing for Washington. He was reached for 6 hits
and 5 walks in 7 innings and served up 2 'big flies'. Bob Porterfield earned
the save with a perfect ninth, his 2nd save.

Alex Kellner(1-8) took the loss. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Newcombe offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them
tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept
them busy tonight - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
