WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Ed Phelps blocked the plate, saving a run!

Bill Duggleby allowed Philadelphia's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game and John Titus had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Baker Bowl where the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 16 to 10.

Titus enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He ripped a one-base hit plating a run
in the 1st inning, tripled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning, hit a single
in the 5th inning and doubled scoring a run in the 6th inning. Philadelphia
provided plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them score 5 runs on 6
hits and the 3rd inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 4 hits. The
Philadelphia offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win went to Duggleby(5-3) who allowed 10 runs in the game. Sam Leever(4-7)
was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 23 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
