Kid Madden went the distance at South End Grounds where the Boston Beaneaters
beat the New York Giants by the score of 9 to 8.

Boston scored 5 runs in the decisive bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 4
base hits. They would be enough to earn the win. New York had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Madden(8-3), allowing 8 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Tim
Keefe(13-6) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the Boston
offense and allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Jim Mutrie 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'
