Johnny Kling had 4 hits as the Chicago Cubs outscored the Boston Beaneaters 14
to 5.

Kling provided much of the offense. He delivered a single in the 1st inning,
laced a one-base hit in the 5th inning, depressed the partisan hometown fans
with a grand slam home run in the 6th inning and doubled bringing in two
baserunners in the 7th inning. Chicago had many opportunities throughout the
game and scored in 6 separate innings.

The win was credited to Buttons Briggs(2-4) who went 8 and 1/3 innings
allowing 5 runs. The losing pitcher was Tom Fisher(2-4). He surrended 3
homeruns in his 9 innings.

The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 29-17. With the loss Boston now
has a record of 15-32, worst in the league.
