WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Birdie Tebbetts blocked the plate, saving a run!

Joe Gordon knocked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Lou Brissie pitched a complete
game as the Washington Nationals were badly beaten by the Boston-AL Red Sox,
13 to 3.

Gordon had a big day with his bat. He blasted a solo shot in the 2nd inning,
cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd inning, delivered a
base-hit scoring a run in the 4th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the
6th inning. Boston-AL banged out 15 hits on the night.

The win went to Brissie(4-5) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Warren Spahn(4-5)
was the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 2 and 1/3 innings of
work.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Gordon said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'
