In a close game the Washington Nationals got by the Cleveland Indians in 11
innings by the score of 4 to 2.

The score was tied at 1 after nine. Washington ended up winning it in the 11th
inning.  Al Smith led off and he was hit by a pitch.  Harry Simpson came next
and he hit a single.  Roy Sievers then slapped a single scoring a run.  Fred
Hatfield followed next and he worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring
another baseruner.  After another out, Harvey Kuenn stepped in and he doubled
scoring the final run of the inning.  Washington had 12 hits for the night.

Warren Spahn(8-6) was the winner allowing 1 run in 10 innings. Spahn got help
from Roy Face who was credited with his 1st save.  Sandy Consuegra(2-4) was
charged with the loss in relief.  By giving up 3 runs in 1 inning his ERA
increased from 2.29 to 2.97.
