Frank Chance collected 2 extra-base hits and Otto Hess pitched a complete game
as the Detroit Tigers defeated the St. Louis-AL Browns by the score of 7 to 3
at Bennett Park.

St. Louis-AL was unable to climb back into it after Detroit went ahead for
good in the 5th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.  George McBride led off and he
banged out a single.  Hess next to the plate and he drew a walk.  Billy
Maloney then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Johnny Evers stepped in and he
laced a base-hit scoring two baserunners.  Evers took second on the throw.
Detroit banged out 8 hits on the afternoon.  

The victory went to Hess(5-9) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Tully
Sparks(7-3) took the loss.  He allowed 7 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.
