as the Boston-NL Beaneaters beat the New York-NL Giants by the count of 8 to

New York-NL fell behind quickly as the Boston-NL offense came through in the
first inning scoring 4 runners on 4 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by
Hickman who helped quiet the crowd when he lost the ball over the fence for
three runs.  Boston-NL managed 14 hits in their victory.  

The victory was credited to Lefty Leifield(8-4) who went 7 innings, allowing 2
runs. Orval Overall(2-3) was the loser.  He allowed 14 hits and 2 walks in 9
