George Winter had a strong outing at Baker Bowl where the Philadelphia-NL
Phillies beat the Chicago-NL Cubs in 12 innings 2 to 1.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Finally,
Philadelphia-NL prevailed in the 12th inning.  John Titus doubled.  John Kane
stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an error resulting in an
exciting win for Philadelphia-NL and a wild post-game celebration by the home
town fans.  Philadelphia-NL had 11 hits overall, while Chicago-NL had 4.

Carl Lundgren(14-3) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
The loss was charged to Rube Vickers(1-2) in relief.  Philadelphia-NL now has
a record of 40-32.  Lee Palmer was pretty down after the loss.  'We've really
been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two.
That won't get it done.'
