Second baseman Jim Delahanty had 5 hits and 2 RBI at Huntington Ave Grnds as
the Boston-AL Red Sox pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the
Philadelphia-AL Athletics by the count of 10 to 9.

Boston-AL scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs on 3 hits. Delahanty led off and started the attack as he banged out a
single. After an out was recorded, Ed Hahn stepped up to the plate and he
lined a base-hit. Roy Hartzell then drew a walk to load the bases. Simon
Nicholls came up and he slapped a one-base hit making Boston-AL the winners
and sending the 10,559 fans home happy. Offensively, Boston-AL was a
juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.

The win went to Doc Crandall(5-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. The loss
was charged to Frank Corridon(1-2) in relief. Dale Van Leven was ebullient
after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that. Our guys
just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the fans - they were going
wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
