In a one-sided affiar at Crosley Field the final score was the Cincinnati Reds
6, the Cleveland Indians 1.
Cleveland fell behind quickly as the Cincinnati offense came through in the
first inning plating 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Enos Slaughter kicked off
the action when he stroked a one-base hit. Jackie Robinson followed and he
drew a walk. Elmer Riddle then unleashed a wild pitch. Pat Mullin stepped
in and he would ground out plating a run. Larry Doby came to the plate and
drew a walk. Eddie Robinson was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Phil Masi came next and he doubled as another two runners scored. The early
run support proved sufficient for Ray Scarborough(4-4) and Cincinnati. That
was all the run support Scarborough required. Cincinnati had 8 hits for the
game and Cleveland had 5.
Riddle(4-2) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 5
hits and 3 walks.
