Hal Newhouser shut down the Philadelphia batters on just 3 hits as the
Washington Nationals bested the pathetic Philadelphia Phillies 5 to 0 at
Shibe Park.

Newhouser(7-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for
the Philadelphia batters. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in
9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.31 to 3.06. Both teams' bats went to sleep
after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.

Murry Dickson(4-6) was the losing pitcher. He got hammered, allowing 12 hits
and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
